The University of South Carolina has launched Palmetto College, a program that will join the forces of its four regional campuses under one administrative structure. In the Fall of 2013, this College will launch it’s first initiative, the Back to Carolina program, which aims to provide a degree-completion path for students who are over the age of 25 and have 60 or more credits under their belt. The program will be offered as a series of hybrid courses, costing students approximately $367 per credit hour. This price will put the program in a competitive spot when compared to for-profit institutions offering similar degrees.
Results from a study surveying approximately 850 medical students in the state of Minnesota show that students do not have an understanding of the 2010 Affordable Care Act. Dr. Tyler Winkelman, a resident of the University of Minnesota, and his team worked with the Mayo Clinic to distribute the survey to all 1,235 medical students in January of 2011. Sixty-eight percent responded. Of these students, forty percent reported they did not know the basics of the law. Twelve percent reported they had no opinion on this question. Results support the statement that those students who understood the law were more likely to support it in the future.
