Getting Started with Google+: Overview & Helpful Resources

by LauraPasquini on July 11, 2011

google plusThe Campus Tech Connection (#CTCX) had a bit of a chat on this week’s show to preview the latest social network – Google Plus. To be super meta, the #CTCX crew hosted the Google+ preview show in a hang out and encouraged listeners to join in the fun.

As usual, we shared many reviews and resources, so we thought it would be best if we shared these tips and tricks in a shared Google+ Google Doc. Since we are shiny and new to the Google+-ville, we thought it would be a good idea to start a helpful list of links, blogs, and news.

thanks for a great discussion!  you wondered around the 28’45″ mark why people would want “circles of circles”.  here are two reasons i do:

    (1) yes, you can add new people to multiple circles.  however, it would be helpful if adding a new person to “child” circle x or “child” circle y would *automatically* add them to “parent” circle z (as opposed to having to remember to add them to both x and z or both y and z)

    (2) it would also help to manage how one views one’s stream.  right now, i can view either the entire firehose, or one circle at a time.  i’ve heard a number of people express desire to view the stream of *some* circles but not *others*.  this could easily be solved by creating a circle containing the circles you *want* to view at a given time, and excluding those circles you *don’t* want to view.

Great thoughts about our circle of circles convo from last night. I like the idea of meta circles in helping you decide how to group and stream your preferred content. Thanks for your thoughts, Luke!
