Supreme Court To Hear Hastings Case

by Jeff Jackson on April 19, 2010

This morning I listened to the NPR story about the Supreme Court Case starting today concerning Hastings College and the Christian Legal Society:

I have been a little disappointed how this case has been covered, focusing specifically on the organization’s beliefs versus the school policy, when I think the case can have larger implications.

I think the question that will be answered is this, “Should all organizations be required to accept anyone into their organization as members?” This goes beyond religion and sexual orientation, to all organizations with any niche interest. Should the Women in Engineering group be required to accept all male non-engineering majors, or Philosophy Students’ Association be required to accept all majors, or…well you get the point.

What is your feeling about the situation at Hastings College. You can read more about it here.

I wrote about this back in December, but I also linked to a new great commentary on Inside Higher Ed today. http://zackfordblogs.com/2010/04/christian-stud

My question is, why are our national orgs silent on this issue?
