How to Tweet: Student Activism

by Julie Larsen on March 9, 2010

A few of the classes that will be part of our summer academic schedule began to leak out the other day, and a few students expressed concern. Several of them are wanting to maximize their course load for the summer session, and the one course that fit our degree plan didn’t generate excitement.

Flash forward a few days later, and I see this in my twitter stream.

That’s right, an online petition to get us to offer more classes. Even better, this particular petition (with it’s fire red background) even tells visitors how long it’s been since we (the petitionees) have responded. Talk about pressure. You also see just how many followers each signer has — meaning just how many people out there can know your students have something to say.

As you can see, we folded. What do you think — will Twitter petitions be effective?
