The Chronicle of Higher Education recapped the annual meeting of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in an article yesterday, where accrediting agencies were accused by the Department of Education of being too secretive in the processes they utilize to assess post-secondary institutions. Interestingly, regional accrediting bodies are private member organizations and can opt to keep certain information out of the public arena.
